Cristina Burani is a key scholar for Italian Psycholinguistics. Her work has focused on the study of the mechanisms underlying lexical processes in adults with and without acquired neurological disorders, as well as children with typical development and children with developmental dyslexia.
 
She is among the Italian scholars who founded the Italian Association of Psychology (AIP) in 1992, and its first Honorary Secretary. Crisitina's career was carried out continuously within the National research Council, tacking on increasingly significant scientific roles, concluding her career in 2018 as Research Director.
