My research focuses on behavioural interventions and nudging, with a particular interest in promoting cooperative and prosocial choices in social dilemmas. I mainly use controlled online experiments, combining established paradigms from psychology and behavioural economics with custom experimental tasks and simulated social environments.
Across national and European research projects, I have worked on:
- Environmental cooperation and norm-based interventions (COOPDEV): social and moral norms, conditional cooperation, and behavioural interventions in environmental social dilemmas.
- Transparency and social evaluation (ICRAS): how social visibility and being evaluated by others influence cooperation in public-goods dilemmas.
- Social information and digital participation (PERYCLES): how support, popularity, and delegation cues shape participation and choice in digital decision environments.
A longstanding interest of mine is altruism and prosocial behaviour. I have approached these topics from different perspectives, studying the motivations behind charitable giving, the development of prosocial choices in children, and how social incentives such as inclusion, exclusion, and belonging can shape behaviour.
I have also worked on a broader range of topics, including health decision-making and medical communication (B-Hu-Well), antibiotic prescribing and resistance, the attraction effect in decision-making, and generative AI in education (INFORMIA-GEN).
Current research and future directions
I am currently developing and testing behavioural prompts designed to reduce dishonesty and promote prosocial and self-regulatory behaviour. These prompts ask people to evaluate their behaviour through the imagined perspective of others, comparing personally significant figures, such as caregivers, with generic or unfamiliar others. I am also exploring related applications in responsible gambling.
More broadly, I am interested in understanding when differences between people and contexts can inform more tailored approaches to behaviour change, and in extending this research to applied and field settings with public and private organisations.
