L'invidia

This book provides a cognitive-motivational "anatomy" of envy, explores its relationships with social comparison processes, the sense of inferiority and low self-esteem, analyzes the differences between envious ill-will and resentment and sense of injustice, as well as between envy and germane emotions, such as admiration, emulation, and jealousy. A typology is also provided of the defensive devices adopted by the envious party in order to cope with his or her distressing feeling and its implications. Finally, envy's possible functions, either individual or social, are discussed.
