Presentation

The Language Development and Disorders Laboratory (LaDD), is grounded in the research work conducted over the last twenty years, at our Institute, on cognitive and language development in typical and in "atypical" populations (children at risk for communication and language delay or disorders, children with Specific Language Impairment, children with Down and with Williams syndrome, Deaf children). The final goal of our research in this area is to better understand the language development process and its cognitive and social correlates, from a developmental neuropsychological perspective.

Although these are "basic science" studies aimed at uncovering the nature and causes of both typical and atypical development, our results also have important implications for education and clinical practice. A wide range of behavioural methods are used in data collection: naturalistic observations, questionnaire to parents and/or to caregivers, and specific tests. Some of these instruments are developed by our research group and largely spread.
